BROOKLYN, NY (April 25, 2022) Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso today released his administration’s Transition Report, which outlines priorities, goals, and proposed strategies that will help guide and implement his vision for Brooklyn. Led by a representative group of leaders from throughout the borough, the report is organized into seven themes – Green Brooklyn, Equitable Brooklyn, Working Brooklyn, Healthy Brooklyn, Creative and Cultural Brooklyn, Educated Brooklyn, and Civically Engaged Brooklyn. Collectively, the themes ladder up to challenges and opportunities present within the borough.

“As a native Brooklynite and later a Councilmember, I’ve become acutely aware of the challenges this great borough is faced with, but also the opportunities for growth, sustainability, and success it holds,” said Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso. “While it can seem insurmountable, our transition team helped to further analyze and organize these challenges and opportunities into comprehensive themes along with how we’ll be approaching them. We’re all excited to fulfill our promise of strengthening this great borough, truly making it a Brooklyn for All.”

As outlined in the Transition Report, the Reynoso administration plans to work closely with the Brooklyn Delegation of the City Council, Brooklyn communities, and Mayor Adams to support policies and fund programs that will further the equity, inclusivity, affordability, safety, economic growth, and health within the borough through land use processes, revitalized tourism, small-business opportunities, and much more.

As emphasized throughout his campaign, the report also highlights the issue of maternal mortality and morbidity that have reached crisis levels in Brooklyn. The Reynoso administration intends to work closely with Brooklyn-based health care facilities in order to provide a significant increase in postpartum care and mental health support, while also supporting policies that increase the length of health insurance coverage for birthing people, and also facilitating the increase of midwives in maternity wards.

Another focus of his administration includes reforming the borough’s 18 community boards, which perform a vital role in connecting residents to City government. Under the Borough President’s stewardship, community boards will be reformed to ensure a diverse membership that is informed, supported, resourced, and transparent, encouraging teens and young adults to participate.

“Brooklyn Borough Hall has been met with renewed energy and purpose to ensure every single Brooklynite has the equal opportunity to meet their full potential,” said Deputy Borough President Diana Richardson. “The full promise of Brooklyn has yet to be seen and the Borough President and I know it’s up to passionate leaders to help achieve and sustain that vision. We’re ready to put in the hard work, keep people and organizations accountable, and provide the very best to support a Brooklyn for All.”

Brooklyn Borough President Reynoso’s transition team was co-chaired by former Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz, former NYC Councilmember Dr. Una S.T. Clarke, and Co-Executive Director of Make the Road Arlenis Morel. Divided into nine sub-committees, the entire transition team was composed of over 50 members. Questions used to shape final recommendations included if advanced equity, racial justice, and inclusive decision making in the borough, as well if the recommendation was data driven and possible to execute within the existing powers of the Borough President.
