BROOKLYN, NY – Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso hosted his 4th Annual Adopt-A-Shelter-Animal event alongside local animal welfare organizations outside Brooklyn Borough Hall. The event continued the Borough President’s efforts in caring for animals in need while helping Brooklynites find their forever companions at a time when New York City animal shelters and rescues are struggling with overcrowding.
Throughout the day, many families stopped by to meet the dogs and cats, while partner organizations shared resources on the adoption process, volunteering, and responsible pet ownership to help ensure families make informed and lasting adoptions. Partners included the Animal Care Centers of NYC (ACC), the ASPCA® (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals®), Badass Animal Rescue, Brooklyn Bridge Animal Welfare Coalition, Flatbush Cats, and Hearts & Bones Rescue.
“This is one of my favorite days at Borough Hall. It’s so important that these animals get a second chance to find a family and that we all help alleviate the strain on our local shelters as they work overtime to provide care and resources for these animals,” said Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso. “Having a pet is a powerful thing – they offer us comfort, they teach us responsibility, and they keep us company on good days and bad. I’m so excited that so many Brooklyn families just got a little bit bigger, and I want to thank all of the partners and new pet parents who made our 4th Annual Adopt-A-Shelter-Animal event so special.”
“Many shelters in New York City and across the country are at capacity, and animals, especially dogs, are often staying longer in their care before being adopted,” said Sidney Fisher, Manager, Admissions & Placement, ASPCA Adoption Center. “During Adopt a Shelter Dog Month, the ASPCA is proud to spotlight the benefits of pet adoption alongside community partners, including Animal Care Centers of NYC, one of the more than 600 shelters and rescues participating in the ASPCA’s Rescue Effect campaign. Choosing adoption helps the animal you take home while freeing up space and resources to help other animals in need, and we thank Brooklyn Borough President Reynoso for hosting this meaningful event.”
“Animal Care Centers of NYC is grateful to Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso for hosting another successful animal adoption event at Borough Hall. We appreciate our governmental partners, our fellow animal welfare organizations and all New Yorkers, who join us in our mission of ending animal homelessness in NYC,” said Animal Care Centers of NYC.
“We’re thrilled to join the Borough Hall President’s Adopt a Shelter Animal event once again. We recently rescued 28 dogs from high-kill shelters, and events like this play a vital role in helping them find their forever homes. We hope today inspires our community to take action — whether that’s adopting, fostering, donating, or volunteering. Every shelter and rescue dog deserves to be seen, and today is the perfect opportunity for them to shine,” said Maria Reask, Marketing Manager, Badass Animal Rescue.
