Racioppo Brings Expertise on Comprehensive Planning and Community Board Reform to Commission Tasked With Amending New York City’s Governing Document
As District Manager, Racioppo Facilitated Transparency, Community Input, and Community Board 6 Support for Gowanus Neighborhood Rezoning and City of Yes for Housing Opportunity
Brooklyn, NY – Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso today named Brooklyn Community Board 6 (CB6) District Manager Mike Racioppo to the New York City Council’s Charter Review Commission. Born and raised in Brooklyn, Racioppo brings more than a decade of experience in government and public policy, having previously served as Chief of Staff at the New York City Council and New York State Assembly and taught Political Science at Brooklyn College. In 2018, after serving for four years as a member and Vice Chair of Brooklyn CB6, Racioppo was named District Manager. In this role, he has been widely recognized for his commitment to transparency and community collaboration on neighborhood-specific and city-wide planning initiatives. His focus on outreach has facilitated increased community feedback and participation in projects like the Gowanus Neighborhood Rezoning and City of Yes, both of which Brooklyn CB6 supported. Between 2018 and 2021, Racioppo sent out his daily newsletter for 800 consecutive weekdays. In 2024, as measured by the Citizens Budget Commission and reported by The New York Times, the community district over which he presides clocked in as New York City’s happiest.
“Mike Racioppo loves this city, understands how it works, and knows how to make it better. He’s the right person for one of the most important jobs: amending the governing document of the greatest city in the world,” said Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso. “As an appointee to the Charter Review Commission, he will bring to the table his expertise on comprehensive planning and community board reform – two priorities we share. I am confident he will serve with open ears and the best interests of Brooklynites in mind. I thank Mike Racioppo for his service and Speaker Adrienne Adams for spearheading this effort at such a pivotal moment for our city and nation.”
The Commission will be composed of 17 members, with nine members appointed by the Speaker and the remaining eight members each appointed by the Mayor, Public Advocate, Comptroller, and five Borough Presidents. As an appointee, Racioppo will work with commission members to review the City Charter and present amendments before voters.
“Thank you to Borough President Reynoso for appointing me. Being appointed by the president of the best borough makes it even more of an honor for a lifelong Brooklynite such as myself. I look forward to working with the other members of the Commission to enhance the Charter and improve how the government works and plans,” said City Council Charter Review Commission Appointee Mike Racioppo.
