BROOKLYN, NY (August 11, 2025) – Today, Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso and Arts Ambassador Colm Dillane, the creative force behind KidSuper, launched the 2026 Brooklyn Pin design competition, welcoming Brooklyn residents and students of all ages to submit their designs by September 30, 2025, at 11:59 PM. The selected pin will be creative, original, and a celebration of Brooklyn. The winning design will be unveiled at the Borough President’s 2026 State of the Borough, during which attendees will be the first to receive the limited-edition collectable and symbol of Brooklyn pride.
“The Brooklyn pin is the people’s pin, and I am so excited for its redesign to be in the hands of creative Brooklynites,” said Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso. “Over the last two decades, the Brooklyn pin has become an iconic symbol of our borough’s cultural strength. Brooklyn is filled with people bursting with creativity and love for our borough, and I am excited to work with Brooklyn Arts Ambassador Colm Dillane to select the next creator of our limited-edition pin.”
“I am super excited and grateful to be working with the Brooklyn Borough President to help select the next artist who will have the honor of redesigning the Brooklyn pin,” said Arts Ambassador Colm Dillane of KidSuper. “Brooklyn is home to so many incredible artists, and I hope this initiative builds a legacy that continues for many, many years to come.”
The official Brooklyn pin is a local tradition made famous by former Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz, who handed out thousands of gold “Brooklyn” pins in the script worn by the Brooklyn Dodgers baseball team. In 2025, as the inaugural Brooklyn Arts Ambassador, Colm Dillane was charged with the unique honor of redesigning a limited-edition run of the official Brooklyn pin. Colm’s design for the 2025 Brooklyn Pin was inspired by the font he doodled in his notebook as a student at Brooklyn Tech.
Describing his inspiration, Dillane said, “As many artists before me I used to doodle on my high school notebooks, I would always use this specific font that I would write bubble letters on all of the papers. This bubble letter font was something I would use on t-shirts, artwork, graffiti moving forward. What a full circle moment to use that same font and aesthetic for the official pin for the Brooklyn Borough President.”
Brooklyn residents and students attending a K-12 school in Brooklyn now have their chance to design the 2026 Brooklyn Pin, which will be unveiled at Borough President Reynoso’s next State of the Borough address.
